Edible Cookie Dough Recipe

Eating chocolate chip cookie dough was my favorite thing as a kid. My mom always scolded me for eating it because you can get sick, but I’d always sneak a few spoonfuls anyways!

Even when I got older and learned more about the dangers of eating raw cookie dough, I still ate it by the spoonful.

It wasn’t until I got salmonella poisoning that I stopped eating anything with raw eggs and became way more careful in the kitchen.

Let me just tell you, salmonella poisoning is NO joke. I spent the night in the hospital (and left with a hefty bill) and had never been in so much pain in my life! It was terrible and I wouldn’t wish that experience on my worst enemy.

So, now I’m sharing a recipe for edible, eggless cookie dough! It’s also made without raw flour, which I will get to later on if you don’t know about that.

Why Isn’t It Safe To Eat Raw Eggs?

Raw eggs can contain a bacteria called Salmonella that can cause food poisoning. Although the risk of an egg being contaminated is pretty low, it’s best not to play Russian roulette with your eggs!

Can I Eat Raw Flour?

Flour may not look like a raw food, but in most cases it is. This means it hasn’t been treated to kill germs like E. coli which can cause food poisoning.

These germs can contaminate grains while they are still in the field or during other steps of flour production.

What Kind Of Flour Can You Eat Raw?

Oat flour can be eaten raw because the oats are cooked before they are turned into flour.

If you don’t have oat flour, you can toast a raw flour like all purpose flour or whole wheat flour. To do this, spread out the flour on a baking sheet and bake for about 5 minutes at 350 F.

Can I Eat Raw Cookie Dough?

You can eat raw cookie dough but only if it does not contain eggs or raw flour! While it’s not guaranteed, you can get very sick from eating those ingredients raw.

Trust me, that’s not a chance you should take!

How To Make Edible Cookie Dough

Ok, so now that you are super educated on the ingredients that make traditional cookie dough unsafe to eat raw, we can talk about how to make EDIBLE COOKIE DOUGH!

YAAASSSSS!

It’s really like the easiest thing in the world and all comes together in one bowl.

To make the Edible Cookie Dough, start by sifting the sugars into a large bowl. Then add the butter and mix until soft and fluffy. Next, sift in the flour and mix until the dough is fully combined. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold in the chocolate chips.

You can eat the cookie dough right out of the bowl like the kid you are at heart, or you can be all adult about it and divide it into bowls. But always top your edible cookie dough with something yummy like sprinkles!

Get Creative With The Toppings

This cookie dough can be topped with anything you like. I chose sprinkles for mine, but go crazy and make an edible cookie dough sundae topped with ice cream, chocolate sauce, and a cherry!

You can also mold it into a baking dish and top it with chocolate, then cut it into squares to make cookie dough bites!

Edible Cookie Dough For One

This Edible Cookie Dough Recipe yields about 5-6 servings, and I can totally eat all that on my own but you might just want to make one serving.

To get the measurements, just jump down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page and hover your mouse over the servings size. Then you can slide the bar up or down to get the measurements for the amount of servings you want!

When I want to eat one serving at a time, I’ll just divide the dough and wrap the remaining portions in plastic wrap and place them inside of a freezer bag.

Properly wrapped cookie dough can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for about 3 months.
