LOS ANGELES (AP) — Starling Marte hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the sixth and first baseman Pete Alonso made a spectacular rally-killing play in the bottom of the inning for the New York Mets, who beat the struggling Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 Saturday to extend their winning streak to six games.
The Mets won their fifth straight series and have gone 12-3 after an 0-5 start.
The Dodgers’ struggles at the plate continued as they lost for the seventh time in nine games. They went 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13. They’ve lost three straight series for the first time since June, and three straight series at home for the first time since August 2018.
The Mets won despite issuing 10 walks, their most since Aug. 15. They hadn’t walked 10 in a win since May 13, 2014, in a 12-7 victory at the New York Yankees.
Reed Garrett struck out the side and hopped off the mound in celebration after getting his first big league save after 39 in the minors and two in Japan.
RAYS 2, YANKEES 0, 10 INNINGS
NEW YORK (AP) — José Caballero hit a go-ahead double in the 10th inning and Tampa Bay beat New York.
Caballero opened the 10th by lining an 0-2 fastball from Caleb Ferguson (0-3) over center fielder Alex Verdugo to easily score automatic runner Richie Palacios. Caballero stole third and scored on a single by former Yankee Ben Rortvedt.
Jason Adam (1-0) retired Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo in the ninth. He got Soto to hit a fly ball to the left-field warning track and sparked some boos at Judge, who struck out for the fourth time.
Garrett Cleavinger pitched a 1-2-3 10th for his first major league save, completing a four-hitter and the Rays’ first shutout this season. New York was blanked for the third time.
Following a pregame ceremony to honor retiring broadcaster John Sterling, the Yankees lost for the fourth time in six games.
TWINS 4, TIGERS 3
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Bailey Ober pitched six solid innings, and Minnesota stopped a five-game slide by edging Detroit.
Byron Buxton and Austin Martin each had two hits for Minnesota, which scored three runs on sacrifice flies.
Wenceel Pérez, Javier Báez and Kerry Carpenter each drove in a run for Detroit. Matt Vierling had two of the Tigers’ five hits.
Ober (1-1) struck out six and walked one. He retired his first 13 batters, and his streak of shutout innings reached 15 before Pérez’s RBI triple in the sixth.
The 6-foot-9 right-hander has allowed eight hits and two earned runs in 16 innings over three starts since he was rocked for eight runs in 1 1/3 innings in his first outing on March 31.

CHICAGO (AP) — Bryan De La Cruz hit a two-run homer off Adbert Alzolay in the ninth inning, and Miami beat Chicago in the opener of a split doubleheader.
In the second game Cody Bellinger and Alexander Canario homered and Chicago beat Miami to earn a split of the day-night doubleheader.
Shota Imanaga (3-0) gave up three runs, two earned, in six innings in the nightcap for the Cubs, who have won six of their last seven games. Imanaga’s scoreless streak to begin his major league career ended in the fourth inning at 18 2/3 innings.
Héctor Neris worked around a single in the ninth inning and picked up his first save in two chances.
Josh Bell homered for the Marlins, whose overall record slipped to 5-17.
The Cubs trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth and rallied, scoring four runs. Canario connected on a 416-foot drive to left field for his first homer of the season, chasing Roddery Muñoz and pulling the Cubs within one. Michael Busch followed with a two-run single off Anthony Bender (0-1). Busch, who was acquired in a January trade with Los Angeles, is hitting 19 for 51 in his last 14 games.
BREWERS 12, CARDINALS 5
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jackson Chourio followed Brice Turang for back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning, becoming the fourth-youngest player since 1900 with four homers in his first 17 games, and Milwaukee routed St. Louis.
Rhys Hoskins homered had three RBIs for the Brewers, whose 18 hits were their most in three years. Every Brewers starter had a hit and eight had multiple hits. The bottom three batters in the order were 6 for 12 with four RBIs.
Milwaukee is a major league-best 9-2 on the road and has won seven of its last eight games against St. Louis. The Brewers had their most hits since 22 in a 17-4 win at the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 12, 2021.
Chourio, at 20 years, 20 days, trails only Lou Klimchock in 1958-59 (19 years, 345 days), Tony Conigliaro in 1964 (19 years, 120 days) and Andruw Jones in 1996 (19 years, 138 days) to four homers.
Bryse Wilson (2-0) pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings in relief of DL Hall, who allowed four runs, five hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings. Hoby Milner, Abner Uribe and Thyago Vieira finished a six-hitter.
GIANTS 7, DIAMONDBACKS 3
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Patrick Bailey drove in three runs and had four hits, including a two-run homer into McCovey Cove, and San Francisco beat Arizona.
Bailey’s home run off Zac Gallen (3-1) landed in a floating kayak and broke a 3-3, fifth-inning tie. It was the 165th splash hit since Oracle Park opened in 2000, the 103rd by a Giants hitter and the first by a switch-hitter since the Cubs’ Robel García in 2019.
Bailey went 4-for-4 on a day when the first 15,000 fans received a bobblehead of the catcher, the second four-hit game of Bailey’s career. He finished a triple shy of the cycle, and all his hits were with two outs.
Kyle Harrison allowed three runs and six hits in four innings, and the Giants’ bullpen fibished with scoreless relief. Ryan Walker (2-2) pitched hitless ball for the win.
RED SOX 4, PIRATES 2
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Kutter Crawford allowed one run in six strong innings and Boston defeated the struggling Pittsburgh.
Crawford (1-0, 0.66 ERA) struck out six and walked three. The 28-year-old right-hander gave up a season-high seven hits after not allowing more than three hits in any of his previous four starts. He yielded two hits in each of his last three starts and has allowed three runs in 27 1/3 innings this season.
Boston entered the series having lost seven of 10 games before taking the first two of the three-game set. Pittsburgh lost its fifth straight game and for the eighth time in 10 games after opening the season 11-5.
Kenley Jansen picked up his fifth save, striking out the side in the ninth, including Michael A. Taylor for the second out on an automatic third strike for not being set. Pirates manager Derek Shelton was tossed after arguing the strike call on Taylor.
Pirates ace Mitch Keller (2-2) was tagged for four runs and allowed five hits and four walks in six innings. After a lead off triple by Jarren Duran, he allowed two runs in the first inning and then faced one batter over the minimum the following four innings.
NATIONALS 5, ASTROS 4, 10 INNINGS
WASHINGTON (AP) — Joey Meneses hit an RBI single in the 10th inning after Ryan Pressly blew the save in the ninth for Houston and Washington came back to defeat Houston.
Meneses led off the 10th against Seth Martinez (1-2) and lined his first pitch to the wall in right-center, scoring Nasim Nuñez from second base with the winning run.
Washington had tied it with two runs in the ninth against Houston, which has lost 11 of its last 12 extra-inning games.
Nick Senzel reached on catcher’s interference by Yainer Diaz and went to third on CJ Abrams’ double off Pressly, who was in after usual closer Josh Hader pitched four times in the previous six days. Jesse Winker’s single to center tied it at 4. It was the sixth blown save for the Astros in eight chances.
Kyle Finnegan (1-2) pitched a scoreless 10th for the win.
Houston trailed 2-1 entering the seventh before getting RBI singles from Kyle Tucker and Jeremy Peña. Tucker added another RBI single in the eighth to make it 4-2.
GUARDIANS 6, ATHLETICS 3
CLEVELAND (AP) — Josh Naylor hit a two-run homer and celebrated by striking himself on the helmet with his bat, providing Cleveland with the go-ahead run in a victory over Oakland.
Naylor’s drive in the fifth off Alex Wood drove in Steven Kwan, giving Cleveland a 4-2 lead. The animated slugger delivered a two-handed smack to his head as the ball cleared the fence in right-center, then spiked the lumber onto the grass.
Two innings later, Naylor again drove in Kwan, with an RBI single off Austin Adams.
Kwan doubled twice and had two singles -- his MLB-high sixth three-hit game -- and José Ramírez and Ramón Laureano had RBI doubles for the Guardians, who have the best record in the American League at 15-6.
Cleveland and rookie manager Stephen Vogt have won six of their last seven and are off to their best start through 21 games since 1999.
Guardians starter Logan Allen (3-0) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Emmanuel Clase worked the ninth for his sixth save in eight chances.
PHILLIES 9, WHITE SOX 5
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Zack Wheeler pitched no-hit ball for 7 1/3 innings, Brandon Marsh homered and Philadelphia extended their winning streak to five by beating struggling Chicago.
Wheeler (1-3) didn’t give up a hit until rookie Korey Lee’s one-out single on a hard grounder into right field that just eluded diving first baseman Bryce Harper. The 33-year-old right-hander struck out eight, walked two and allowed no runs while throwing 75 of 106 pitches for strikes.
A night earlier, Philadelphia’s Spence Turnbull didn’t allow a hit until Gavin Sheets’ one-out single in the seventh.
Chicago is batting a major league-low .190 and extended its franchise-worst start to 3-17. The White Sox have lost eight of their last nine games.
Philadelphia at 13-8 moved five games over .500 in April for first time since 2019.
Wheeler was dominant, allowing only two balls to leave the infield before Lee’s hit. His toughest batter probably was his first, when Nicky Lopez worked a 10-pitch walk leading off the game. That played big later when Wheeler’s pitch count was at 101 at the start of the eighth.
REDS 7, ANGELS 5
CINCINNATI (AP) — Tyler Stephenson hit his first career grand slam in the first inning, Stuart Fairchild drove in two runs and Cincinnati beat Los Angeles to take the first two games of the three-game interleague series.
Graham Ashcraft pitched into the sixth inning for the Reds, who were coming off a 7-1 win over the Angels on Friday night. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed all five Angels runs and five hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Nick Martinez pitched three scoreless innings in relief, and Alexis Diaz got the Angels in order in the ninth for his third save.
The Reds jumped all over Angels starter Patrick Sandoval (1-3) in the first inning.
After giving up a run-scoring double to Stuart Fairchild, Sandoval walked Jeimer Candelario and Elly De La Cruz, sandwiched around a strikeout by Christian Encarnacion-Strand. That set up Stephenson’s bases-loaded shot to right field that came down on the bullpen roof just inside the foul pole.
BRAVES 5, RANGERS 2
ATLANTA (AP) — Charlie Morton combined with three relievers on a five-hitter and Atlanta beat Nathan Eovaldi and Texas for their sixth straight win.
The NL East-leading Braves have won the first two games of the weekend series against the Rangers, who lead the AL West.
Travis d’Arnaud, who drove in six runs with three homers, including a grand slam, in the Braves’ 8-3 win on Friday night, hit a two-run homer off right-hander Austin Pruitt in the eighth.
Morton (2-0) allowed two runs and four hits with two walks in six innings. Joe Jiménez, A.J. Minter and Raisel Iglesias each pitched a scoreless inning. Iglesias earned his sixth save in as many chances with a perfect ninth inning.
Luis Guillorme had a run-scoring double and Matt Olson’s sacrifice fly broke a 2-2 tie in Atlanta’s three-run second inning.
Eovaldi (1-2) allowed three runs and five hits and six walks in 5 1/3 innings.
ORIOLES 9, ROYALS 7
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Craig Kimbrel tied Billy Wagner for seventh on the career list with his 422nd save, Anthony Santander had the first three-double game of his major league career and Baltimore rode a seven-run second inning to a victory over Kansas City.
Salvador Perez tied his career high with five RBIs for the Royals, who tried to overcome a 7-0 deficit, and hit a game-ending flyout to Colton Cowser in front of the left-field warning track.
Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save in six chances this year as the Orioles evened the three-game series. He is two saves behind John Franco on the career list and three back of Kenley Jansen.
Santander sprinted in to make a diving catch on Bobby Witt Jr’s flare into short right field starting the ninth.
Corbin Burnes (3-0) pitched shutout ball until allowing Perez’s three-run homer in the sixth, Perez’s sixth home run this season. Burnes allowed four hits in 5 2/3 innings with four strikeouts and a walk.
MARINERS 7, ROCKIES 0
DENVER (AP) — Luis Castillo pitched two-hit ball over seven innings to win for the first time in five starts this season, Cal Raleigh homered among a career-high four hits and Seattle overcame intermittent rain and snow to beat Colorado.
Julio Rodríguez added four hits and two RBIs for the Mariners, who sent the Rockies to a sixth consecutive loss and dropped Colorado to 4-16 — with four of the losses shutouts. The 20-game start is the worst in Rockies history.
Temperature at first pitch was 33 degrees and dropped to 31 during the game.
A split doubleheader is scheduled for Sunday to make up for the postponement of the series opener Friday due to a storm that left 7 inches of snow over greater Denver.
Castillo (1-4) struck out nine and and walked one, lowering his ERA from 5.82 to 4.40. Last year he took a perfect game bid into the seventh inning against the Rockies.
BLUE JAYS 5, PADRES 2
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Daulton Varsho hit a three-run homer and José Berríos pitched six scoreless innings to lead Toronto to a win over San Diego.
Berríos (4-0) allowed six hits, struck out six and lowered his ERA to 0.85. He has won all four of his starts for Toronto, which has six victories in its last seven games.
Jordan Romano pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save.
Varsho’s home run off Randy Vásquez (0-1) capped a three-run first inning for the Blue Jays, with all the runs unearned after a throwing error by Padres third baseman Graham Pauley. It was Varsho’s third homer in the last three games. He homered, doubled and singled in four at-bats.
Vásquez, who was added to the roster Saturday from Triple-A El Paso, allowed four runs — one earned — and four hits in four innings in his first big league game of the season.
